Fishing West Venn Lake – 24-27th June

So, I managed to get some fishing in for an hour or so each evening for the past few days down at our lake here at West Venn. I’ve not had any monsters and, if the truth be known, with the weather being so hot, it has been pretty hard fishing. But I have had carp to 10lb 5oz and “whiskers” to 15lb 7oz.

Our guests staying here have all caught fish; for those who have set their stall out and persevered for the bigger fish, they have been rewarded with carp up to 15lb, a fair few in the 6 to 10lb range, plus the odd bream to 7lb and small catfish to 5lb.

Our star guest this week is Alan, who didn’t start fishing until he was 70 !! He has been down there a couple of times and, by his own admission, is there for the peace and quiet, not the big fish.

Every time he has fished he has managed “to miss more than I caught”, but is thoroughly enjoying his new found sport and R+R … Total Respect!

If you are prepared to work a bit and alternate your baits, tactics and lines, you will catch fish steadily all day.

A few pictures of what have ben caught recently:
